Meet Sara Deacon
Great West Newspapers & Great West Digital Agency enjoy creating marketing strategies for a variety of clients and businesses, and we’re featuring some of the faces behind the brand’s most successful campaigns. Today we meet Sara Deacon, Media Sales Specialist for the St. Albert Gazette and St. Albert TODAY.
Sara enjoys Trivial Pursuit, quizzes and documentaries. She doesn’t have a sweet tooth, preferring meat, cheese, chips and dip over confections.
What else does Sara like?
“Peanut butter!” she says of the staple item in her pantry, “and my favourite movies are Gone With the Wind, Dead Poets Society, and The Way We Were.”
One thing she dislikes is flying because of, “the fact that someone else has control.” Knowing this makes the Great West Digital team happy that she braved the flight from England to Canada where she continued her career in advertising.
What drew you to a career in sales?
“When I lived in England I worked for a point-of-sale advertising agency in their creative department, and I really enjoyed seeing how the projects came together for the clients. When the opportunity came up to work for the St. Albert Gazette in media sales, I was excited to combine my expertise with the opportunity to create effective, innovative advertising for my clients.”
What do you love the most about your job?
Every day is different. I really love working with my clients and helping them create the most effective ad campaigns for their advertising dollars.
Based on your experience in the field, what is your best advice for any company looking to take their business to the next level with digital advertising?
Partner with someone that is well versed in all aspects of the digital world. Things change so quickly in the digital space that if a company doesn’t have an in-house person taking care of their advertising full-time, it is best to find someone like our team at Great West Digital to guide them through all the options and keep them updated on what is available. We have a menu of packages that can be customized to a business’ advertising objectives.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. You can spend a lot of wasted energy on worrying about things that will never happen. Focus on what you can deal with today tomorrow will take care of itself.
